YouthVoteNYC
Role: Designer
YouthVoteNYC is a social media campaign for Student Voter Registration Day (SVRD), an initiative of DemocracyNYC and the NYC Mayor's Office in collaboration with the NYC Department of Education, the City University of New York, and the Department of Youth and Community Development. SVRD is an annual one-day program designed to register students to vote, educate them about civic participation, and promote a voting culture among NYC's youngest eligible citizens. This year, the goal was to register students during the course of one week. For this to happen, a re-brand was necessary. After some conversation we renamed the campaign to YouthVoteNYC / Student Voter Registration Week (SVRW) 2019.
With the new name in mind, I began developing several different logos in various styles. The aim was to create a visual identity that would appeal to a younger audience. The final logo options were hand drawn to create a more energetic and inviting design. The “O” in “Vote” is intended to represent the bubble you fill out in a ballot. After some revisions and polling from our office's interns, we landed on the final logo.
During this time, we produced a series of interviews with youth activists from the Brooklyn High School of the Arts. The students’ interviews became the voice of the campaign and I helped in ensuring consistency with the graphic elements across their videos.
